Drill #1 - This drill is designed to help improve a serve. For this drill you will need sidewalk cones. Set up as many cones as possible on either side of the court. The team is then divided into two, and each player will attempt to knock down as many cones as they can on the opponent’s side. Each player goes one at a time, and has a chance to hit a cone. If they succeed, they can try to hit another cone. When they miss the next player goes. Players must knock the cones down by serving the ball to the other side of the court. The first team to knock down all the cones wins.
Drill #2 - This is a defensive drill that can help to improve against other teams. In match area, have six players line up on one side. These six players will be considered the receivers. Two players on the other side will have three zones to block. The six players in the line will toss the ball onto the opposite side, where the two other players will have to stop it.
There are many different drills to run for effective game play. These drills might just be the perfect thing for younger kids, as they are less intensive and safer. These drills can improve dexterity and accuracy without causing too much frustration on the coach’s part, and without the worry of possible injury. These drills can also help kids to play as a team.
