There are many rivalries in team sports and especially baseball. The Dodgers and the Giants, The Cubs and the Cardinals, the Patriots and the Jets are just a few of the best rivalries that bring fane to their feet. but there’s nothing quite like the Red Sox vs. the Yankees. In addition to the rivalry, there are some team and fan traditions that make each of these franchises stand out.

The Yankees- The Yankees fans begin every game with a roll call that starts in the right field corner. Fans will chant the names of players until the player responds with a wave or a tip of the cap. Yankees fans like to be a part of the game, so they will frequently wish to be recognized by the players. The will insist on a curtain call whenever a player hits a home run and will interfere with balls in play whether it benefits their team or not.

Red Sox fans- Red Sox fans are known for being hard on their own players as well as visiting Yankees. Players in prolonged slumps are frequently booed by the home crowd. Red Sox fans are also known for singing Sweet Caroline during the seventh inning stretch of the game.

Over the years, Yankee and Red Sox fans have carried their dislike of each other’s teams into dislike of each other’s fans. The Yankees spend the most money and have by far the most championships. The Red Sox have won more world titles in recent years, and as of 2011, are climbing the ranks of MLB spenders so that there is nearly no difference now between the two payrolls. Both teams are in the hunt for seemingly every free agent available on the market. You can never have too much pitching, and these teams can never have too many position player either.
