Five NFL Failures

The NFL welcomes some of the best college athletes available. However, sometimes even the best college players can not hack the NFL. Some players are doomed to be what used to be. Five players who came up short include…

05 - Archie Griffin: The multiple time winner of the Heisman Trophy took his team to the PAC 10 three times. After his college days, Griffin was drafted in 1976 for seven seasons, in which he played mediocre games.

04 - Jason White: Winner of the Heisman Trophy and the Davey O’Brien Award, White spent time playing for the Titans after college and then later retired.

03 - Andrew Ware: Winner of the Heisman Trophy, Ware passed more than 4,600 yards and held more than twenty-four records in his college days. He was later drafted by the Detroit Lions and played fourteen games, and then moved for a short time to play with the Raiders. After the Raiders he played in the CFL, before retiring to be a football analyst for ESPN.

02 - Gary Beban: UCLA’s only Heisman Trophy winner, was drafted in 1968 after being inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame. During his short NFL career, he threw only one pass before he retired to start his own business.

01 - Terry Baker: A Heisman Trophy winner, Baker also won the Liberty Bowl Most Valuable Player award and the Maxwell Award. Baker began his career with the L.A. Rams. The coach of the team did not put Baker on the field as much as would have been expected. Because he was rarely on field, he was only able to make four interceptions and throw two-hundred yards in his career, making Baker the first Heisman winner to washout of the NFL.

One thing all of these players had in common was enough talent to lead their college teams to victory on many occasions and often to win the Heisman trophy. However, with great wins comes great falls, and they all fell out of the NFL at rocket speed, making them the top five NFL Failures.
