The Super Bowl

Every sports fan can tell you that the most important sports event of the year in the United States is the Super Bowl. The winners of both the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference championship games battle each other in a four-hour brawl that for most people includes beer, chips, and commercials. The Super Bowl could even be considered a national holiday.

If you take a look at NFL history, you will see that the Super Bowl game was originally a battle between the National Football League and the American Football League. It wasn’t until the 1970s that the two leagues were changed into conferences and signed under the National Football League name. The Super Bowl games are kept track of by notating the number of the game in a Roman numeral rather than the year it was played.

As of Super Bowl XLIV, the NFC has won an amazing 23 games, leaving only 21 games in the AFC’s favor. Whoever wins the Super Bowl will receive the Vince Lombardi Trophy for that year. The trophy gained its name from the Green Bay Packers, who won the very first Bowl game. The trophy is named after the Packers’ former coach. The Packers may have won the very first trophy, but it is the Pittsburgh Steelers who have scored the spot of greatest number of wins at the Super Bowl. The Steelers have won six championships with a possible seventh on the way during Super Bowl XLV! The Cowboys and the 49ers follow the Steelers closely with five wins each.

The Super Bowl is undoubtedly the biggest event to watch during the Football season, not to mention the commercials that run during the Super Bowl. Some fans watch the Bowl for football and others for the legendary commercials. Either wa,y what ever the reason for watching is, from wherever you watch, everyone wants a seat front row and center during the Super Bowl.
